North Mid Improvement Expo continues to drive innovation and recognise excellence in healthcare

The latest edition of the North Mid Improvement Expo 2024, held on Friday 29 November, celebrated groundbreaking healthcare initiatives, and recognised the contributions of professionals dedicated to improving patient care. This inspiring event brought together healthcare leaders, practitioners, and advocates for a day of insightful discussions, keynote presentations, and collaborative learning. The day began with an opening address by the Trust CEO Dr Nnenna Osuji, highlighting past achievements and outlining a bold vision for the future of patient care.

The program featured a variety of engaging talks and sessions. The morning began with a discussion on Patient Experience at North Mid , which focused on how listening to patients can lead to improved care journeys. Miles Sibley, Director of the Patient Experience Library, delivered a keynote address on Improvement Culture , exploring how understanding organisational culture in complex healthcare systems can help identify opportunities for change.

In the afternoon, a keynote session on  Making Every Contact Count (MECC) brought together speakers Stephanie Goodlet, Craig Robson, Vhenekayi Nyambayo, and Manal Sadik, who shared strategies for using everyday interactions to improve health equity and outcomes. Simultaneously, the Atrium hosted a heartwarming choir performance that brought the community together. Later, Estivia Adhelfa presented Let’s Talk Cancer , a powerful discussion on raising awareness and improving cancer care outcomes. Another session led by Manal Sadik and Peter Clifton explored Using Data to Improve Health Equalities , demonstrating the critical role of data in addressing disparities in healthcare. The day’s talks concluded with a keynote by Dr Chad Byworth on Getting Population Health into Quality Improvement , offering insights into integrating population health principles into healthcare systems to drive sustainable change.

The Expo concluded with an awards ceremony honouring exceptional teams and individuals across five themes:

People Award

Winner: Ms. P McCulloch, Mr. N Thin, Prof. L Dvorkin, Ms. J Austin, F. Tutty, V. Cerniauskiene, and Mr. R Navaratnam for Developing the Colorectal Pre-MDT Meeting.

Runner-up: Communications Team for Publishing Resolved Pebbles on the North Mid Staff Intranet.

Partnership Award

Winner: Nancy James from the Quality Governance Team for Daily Incident Report Automated Formatting with Visual Basic for Application (VBA) Coding.

Runner-up: Community Paediatric Occupational Therapy Team for Tackling Health Inequalities in People with Type 2 Diabetes.

Patient Award

Winner: Dr. Akash Chandani, Dr. Cyrine Cunanan, and Dr. Sumathi Ragavan for Improving Post-fall Care for Inpatients at NMUH.

Runner-up: S. Mogaji, K. Knight, C. Clements, S. Shah, and A. Abdullahi for Introduction of a New Inhaled Analgesic (Penthrox) in the Paediatric Emergency Department.

Sustainability Award

Winner : Dr. Tharsika Sritharan, Dr. Alicia Walsh, and Dr. Penny Vourou for [18] DNACPR and TEP.

Runner-up: Dr. N. Morrison and team for Ward Standard Work.

Outstanding Care Award

Winner : Community Paediatric Occupational Therapy Team for  Reducing Waiting Times for Community Paediatrics Occupational Therapy Services.

Runner-up: Rashmi Rajput for Reducing Moisture Lesions on S2 Ward.

People’s Choice Award

Winner : Anna May Charles, Natasha Knutt, Nadine Campbell for Hello Clinician.

Runner-up: Doris Nwachukwu-Anokwa ​ for Communication barriers amongst the clinical staffs and domestic.

 

The North Mid Expo highlighted the dedication, creativity, and collaboration of healthcare professionals working to transform patient care. By bringing together diverse perspectives and showcasing innovative solutions, the Expo reinforced the shared commitment to driving equity, sustainability, and quality improvement across healthcare systems.
