Hospital ward named after Captain Sir Tom Moore as the Trust celebrates its Centenary year
North Middlesex University Hospital NHS Trust (North Mid) in north London is celebrating its 100th Birthday this year. As part of the celebrations and as a tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore, the hospital will name their new 20-bed ward after the Army Veteran who left a wonderful legacy through this charity work.
The ‘Captain Sir Tom Moore’s Centenary Ward’ will be located next to the hospital’s Pymmes building and will be used to care for patients recovering from surgery.
Thanks to Captain Sir Tom Moore’s remarkable fundraising efforts and contribution to NHS Charities, North Mid has received £230,000. The 100-year-old Guinness World Record holder did a fundraising walk and raised almost £33m in total by walking 100 laps of his garden. Staff at North Mid, like so many frontline workers across the country, have been working tirelessly to care for patients under immense pressure. The money raised by the NHS hero has been used to provide emotional and practical support for staff. A number of wellbeing projects have been funded including the appointment of a psychologist for six months to help staff deal with the impact of the pandemic.
Maria Kane, Chief Executive of North Middlesex University Hospital, said: “Thanks to Captain Sir Tom Moore, NHS Trusts across the country have benefitted from a significant amount of money which will help support and aid the country’s recovery from Covid-19. His legacy is helping us to provide vital support right now to our staff on the frontline and, with the new ward opening during our Centenary year, it was only right that we commemorated his life as part of our 100th anniversary celebrations.”
With the hospital celebrating its’ centenary, North Mid has also displayed a timeline of the hospital’s history on site as well as a video of the new proposed hospital.
