Our Centenary Year
At the heart of the community for 100 years
For the last century, North Mid has been caring for local people, looking after local communities that have changed as much and as quickly as the treatement, medicines and technology used at our hospital.
-
Our Centenary Year
2021 sees us celebrate one hundred years of our hospital officially becoming the much loved hospital that it is. We have been marking the milestone throughout the year, with an exhibition in our atrium, opening up the Captain Sir Tom Moore Centenary Ward, and sharing staff stories.

A reconfigured hospital
Our hospital, our services, our teams and our partners had to make rapid changes at the same time as we were all facing huge changes in our ways of living. In order to confront the Covid-19 pandemic in the long term, we underwent a major transformation in our ongoing efforts to meet patient and community needs safely.
Working in partnership

A premier partnership
Down the road from North Mid, the state-of-the-art Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (Spurs) stadium in central Tottenham might seem an unlikely place for a woman to be receiving antenatal care. But when the government suspended mass sporting events in mid-March 2020 to reduce virus spread, the stadium – which was only one years old at the time – was destined to stay empty until Spurs chairman Daniel Levy offered it to North Mid to use for health and care services.
Throughout the partnership period from April until July, more than 41,000 antenatal and women’s outpatient appointments took place, with staff seeing more than 200 new patients every day.

Improving treatment through research
At the start of the pandemic, researchers and medics all around the world came together with a clear focus to improve treatment for Covid-19 and to find a vaccine. North Mid was quick to join global efforts to find new treatments for the disease and became a site for national and international research projects.

Bringing Our Forward View to life
At the core of the new strategy is a new model of care, charting a course on how we will extend the care we provide in the community, where ever possible beyond the confines of the hospital grounds, and how we aim to integrate our clinical services with other services, or organisations, that meet the needs of our population such as debt and housing advice for example.
It reinforces our commitments to quality and our ‘Patient First’ continuous improvement partnership with University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
